It all started on my visits to England and Scotland when for the first time I caught sight of the boards advertising Bed & Breakfast on the outside of lovely old houses. Here I stayed overnight with welcoming hosts in cosy private rooms. A few years later it became common even in metropolitan centres: hospitable landlords and -ladies to share their private residences for overnight stays including breakfast - on top of everything they offered tips and hints about local peculiarities, the countryside and the people, cultural events and shopping facilities.
